Opened in 1934 as a tuberculosis sanatorium for Washington, D.C., Glenn Dale later served other patients before closing in 1982. Its abandoned hospital buildings have become a major source of local ghost stories, but entering the structures is prohibited; view them only from legal public roads and trails.
Colorado Springs, CO
Old railroad tunnels along Gold Camp Road are central to one of Colorado Springs' most persistent ghost legends, involving supposed voices and handprints. The supernatural story is folklore; the surviving tunnels and former rail grade are the tangible stop.
Gold Hill, NV
One of Nevada’s oldest hotels survives beside the Comstock mines and is associated with stories of named resident ghosts and unexplained activity.
Lebanon, OH
The Golden Lamb has operated in Lebanon since 1803 and is Ohio's longest continually operating business, with a restaurant, guestrooms and fourth-floor historical displays. Staff and guests have long reported apparitions associated with figures including Sarah Stubbs and politician Clement Vallandigham, who accidentally shot himself at the inn in 1871; the property itself publishes and preserves these ghost stories.
Skagway, AK
The onion-domed former Golden North Hotel is tied to Skagway's long-running 'Scary Mary' ghost legend about a woman said to have died while waiting for a prospector to return. The building no longer operates as a hotel and now houses businesses, so the haunting should be presented as folklore and access limited to lawful public areas.
Goldfield, NV
The imposing 1908 hotel is central to Goldfield ghost lore, including stories of an apparition called Elizabeth; unless an authorized event or tour is offered, view it only from public space.
Wales, NY
This inactive town-owned cemetery dates to 1811 and became notorious in the late twentieth century for stories of apparitions and other paranormal activity. Ghost hunters also caused serious vandalism here, so visit only during lawful cemetery access, remain within the grounds and treat the surviving graves with particular care.
Cranston, RI
This nineteenth-century mansion was home to industrialist and Civil War-era Rhode Island governor William Sprague. Its long history, family tragedies and preserved interiors have produced decades of local ghost stories and reported paranormal encounters. The Cranston Historical Society opens the property for tours and special events rather than daily visitation.
Galveston, TX
The 1911 beachfront hotel is one of Galveston's best-known haunted landmarks, especially for the long-running Lovelorn Lady or Ghost Bride stories.
St. Clair Township, OH
Gretchen's Lock is a surviving ruin of the nineteenth-century Sandy and Beaver Canal inside Beaver Creek State Park. Legend says canal engineer E.H. Gill temporarily entombed his young daughter Gretchen in the lock after her death before attempting to return her body to Europe, and visitors still tell stories of her spirit near the stones; reaching the lock requires a park trail hike.
Girard Township, PA
The 1868 Gudgeonville Covered Bridge developed generations of folklore about phantom hoofbeats and ghostly figures around Elk Creek. Arson destroyed the historic covered portion in 2008 and the crossing was rebuilt, so travelers now visit the same folklore location rather than the original covered bridge.
Naugatuck, CT
This small cemetery dates to around 1790 and is one of Connecticut's better-known local haunting sites. Stories include a black ghost dog, a lantern-carrying man, a child near the back wall and unexplained music. Treat the reports as folklore and visit respectfully during permitted cemetery hours.
Gurdon, AR
A mysterious light has been reported for decades along an abandoned railroad corridor outside Gurdon. The phenomenon is one of Arkansas’s best documented pieces of ghost-light folklore.
Middletown, RI
This Gothic Revival mansion, later known through its use as an inn, has been associated with stories of apparitions and unexplained activity. Its architecture alone gives the property a distinctly haunted-house silhouette, complete with steep gables and elaborate nineteenth-century detailing. It currently operates as lodging, so access should be limited to guests or authorized visits.
Prescott, AZ
The 1927 hotel preserves Spanish Colonial Revival architecture and a long-running ghost story about a bride known as Faith. Guests can experience the historic building without trespassing, while OddWay should keep the haunting framed as local lore.
Brumley, MO
The turreted Castle House has been used as a residence and medical property and is promoted around its long-running paranormal reputation. Tours and investigations are reservation-based, so it should be treated as a scheduled private attraction rather than a walk-up abandoned site.
Derry Township, PA
Haunted Coal Mine is a mine-themed walk-through haunt included in Hersheypark's Dark Nights event. Visitors encounter underground-style sets, actors and horror scenes during select autumn event nights, not as a year-round standalone coal-mine attraction.
Henderson, KY
The three-story building at 120 N. Elm Street has been featured by Kentucky After Dark for stories involving shadow figures, voices, a mysterious bell and other reported activity. The retail business formerly known as The Elm moved away from this address in 2025, so OddWay should treat the historic haunted building itself as an exterior stop unless a current tenant advertises public access.
Youngsville, NC
Panic Point is a large seasonal outdoor haunt built around a wooded property near Youngsville, with a haunted forest and a rotating lineup of trails, mazes and other scare experiences. It operates on select fall nights and tickets are tied to the Halloween season.
Hope Township, NJ
The Haunted Halloween House is part of the Land of Make Believe amusement park rather than a standalone New Jersey haunted attraction. Visitors encounter Halloween-themed characters and spooky scenes as one attraction within the larger seasonal family park.
Mineral Wells, TX
A privately operated paranormal-investigation house offering reserved overnight investigations and special events rather than casual walk-in tours.
Warrenton, VA
Haunted Hollow at Maple Tree Farm is a seasonal Virginia haunted trail that leads visitors through wooded paths, barns and farm settings populated by live scare actors. It operates on selected fall nights and requires visitors to follow the event's ticketing and safety rules.
Pataskala, OH
Haunted Hootchie at Dead Acres is an intense, adult-oriented Ohio haunted attraction known for large sets, live performers and deliberately extreme horror imagery. It is a seasonal fall destination and should be treated as limited access outside its posted operating nights.
Marshall, WI
This Haunted House is a dark ride inside Little Amerricka Amusement Park in Marshall, not a standalone Halloween haunt. Visitors board a ride vehicle and pass through old-school spooky scenes and effects during the amusement park's operating season.
