The 1868 Gudgeonville Covered Bridge developed generations of folklore about phantom hoofbeats and ghostly figures around Elk Creek. Arson destroyed the historic covered portion in 2008 and the crossing was rebuilt, so travelers now visit the same folklore location rather than the original covered bridge.
