Chester’s giant teapot began as an oversized Hires Root Beer keg before William “Babe” Devon bought it in 1938, added a handle, spout and lid, and turned it into a teapot-shaped concession stand promoting the region’s pottery industry. Restored and relocated over the years, it now stands on a landscaped roadside site as one of West Virginia’s classic oversized attractions.
