Traverse City’s giant pie pan is the surviving hardware from the city’s July 25, 1987 attempt to bake the world’s largest cherry pie, which weighed more than 28,000 pounds. The pan remains outdoors as a roadside monument to the event, giving travelers a quick photo stop tied directly to northern Michigan’s cherry industry.
