Walgren Lake is associated with a long-running Nebraska monster story, sometimes called the Alkali Lake Monster, describing an enormous creature in or around the water. The recreation area is a legitimate public destination, allowing OddWay to attach the folklore to a safe, routeable lake rather than an invented pin.
