The property began as a boys' school before becoming St. Albans psychiatric hospital in 1916, and its long institutional history has made it one of Virginia's best-known paranormal investigation sites. The building is private and entry is allowed only through authorized tours, haunted events or scheduled investigations; never enter outside an official event.
