A massive explosion at the Split Rock munitions plant killed more than 50 workers in 1918, and the abandoned quarry later developed stories of phantom footsteps, voices and machinery. The surviving stone Crusher can still be reached on foot within the wooded former factory site, but it is an undeveloped hike and visitors should stay on the permitted public route.
