The original eighteenth-century gravestone of Sarah Swan became a local curiosity because its carved portrait appears unusually expressive and distinctive compared with standard New England funerary art. To protect it from weather and vandalism, the original stone was moved to the Bristol Historical & Preservation Society while a replica marks the grave. Check museum hours before visiting specifically for the original.
