Nine miners were trapped underground by flooding at Quecreek in July 2002 and were brought out alive after a highly publicized 77-hour rescue. The rescue field is now Monument for Life Memorial Park, where visitors can see the rescue shaft, a miner statue and outdoor memorials; the educational center has separate operating hours.
