This 1838 independent library is closely tied to Edgar Allan Poe, who spent time here during his courtship of poet Sarah Helen Whitman, and it was later frequented by H.P. Lovecraft. Its narrow galleries, old collections and literary associations give the building an atmosphere that fits naturally into a Providence weird-fiction route.
