Point Lookout held tens of thousands of Confederate prisoners during the Civil War, with thousands dying from disease and harsh conditions before the camp closed in 1865. The state park preserves the landscape and interpretation today, while generations of visitors and staff have reported apparitions, voices and other ghost stories around the former prison grounds and lighthouse area.
