Built beginning in 1870 for businessman and former Binghamton mayor Sherman D. Phelps, the mansion is associated with reports of period-dressed apparitions, unexplained footsteps, moving objects and a clock chiming without being wound. It is now a public museum with regular tours, while dedicated haunted tours and paranormal investigations are offered on scheduled dates or by reservation.
