Earthworks beside the Waimea River preserve the remains of an early nineteenth-century fort associated with the Russian-American Company and Kauaʻi ruler Kaumualiʻi. The history is more complicated than the old 'Russian fort' label suggests. The state park is temporarily closed after Hurricane Lowell.
