The Ohio State Reformatory was built beginning in 1886 and operated as a prison until 1990 before becoming a museum and preservation site. Beyond its use as a filming location for The Shawshank Redemption, the enormous cellblocks have a major paranormal reputation and the reformatory offers both regular tours and structured ghost-hunting programs.
