The Pali overlooks the cliffs associated with the 1795 Battle of Nuʻuanu, when Kamehameha I's forces defeated Oʻahu's defenders during the campaign to unify the islands. The state wayside is also a classic setting for local supernatural lore. As of September 10, 2026, it remains temporarily closed for Hurricane Lowell repairs.
