Moonville was a remote mining and railroad settlement whose last residents left in the twentieth century, leaving behind its cemetery, foundations and brick-lined railroad tunnel. Numerous deaths along the old rail line produced stories of a spectral brakeman carrying a lantern and other apparitions; the tunnel is reached on the public Moonville Rail Trail, which is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and remains rugged in places.
