At roughly 9,200 feet, the visitor station sits below one of the world's most important astronomical summit complexes. Altitude, rapidly changing weather, cultural concerns, and summit-road restrictions all matter; the visitor station is the appropriate public orientation point rather than an automatic route to observatories.
