Costume designer Antoinette Sherri built an extravagant country estate here and became locally famous for lavish parties and eccentric behavior. The house burned in 1962, leaving stone foundations, columns and the remains of a dramatic staircase in the forest. The upper portion of the staircase collapsed in 2021, so visitors should admire the ruins without climbing them.
