An 11-foot white-marble crucifix lies beneath the waters of Little Traverse Bay after being placed there in 1962 as a memorial to divers who had died. During rare winters with safe, clear ice, organized viewing events have allowed visitors to walk offshore and look down through a cut in the ice; access depends completely on conditions and authorization.
