A 351-foot concrete obelisk marks the Kentucky birthplace of Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States of America. The enormous monument was constructed between 1917 and 1924; interpretation of the site should place Davis and the Confederacy within the history of slavery, secession and the Civil War rather than treating the monument as neutral commemoration.
