The Wailua River complex contains a heiau, royal birthstone traditions, and one of the densest concentrations of high-status Hawaiian cultural sites on Kauaʻi. It is a protected sacred landscape inside the state-park system, currently closed with other Kauaʻi state parks after Hurricane Lowell.
