This unusual monument marks the grave of John Cleves Symmes Jr., the nineteenth-century Army officer who argued that the Earth was hollow and accessible through enormous openings near the poles. His son erected the stone topped with a hollow globe, and it remains publicly accessible in Hamilton's Ludlow Park.
