Harvey Ball, the Worcester artist who created the familiar yellow Smiley Face in 1963, is buried beneath a granite marker displaying his own cheerful design. Ball reportedly created the image in minutes for an insurance-company morale campaign and was paid only a small fee. Visit Notre Dame Cemetery respectfully from dawn to dusk.
