A serpentine sculpture on the Gloucester Harborwalk commemorates the enormous sea creature reported by numerous witnesses off Cape Ann in 1817. Explanations for the historic sightings have ranged from ordinary marine animals to misidentification, but the Gloucester Sea Serpent remains one of Massachusetts' defining cryptid legends.
