A tiny park squeezed into the junction of U.S. 78 and 178 marks a surprisingly layered piece of South Carolina history. A causeway crossed Four Holes Swamp here by 1753, a bridge followed in the 1770s, and Patriot and Loyalist forces fought around the crossing during the Revolutionary War. Just beyond the memorial area is a small hilltop cemetery containing several Confederate veterans' graves.
