Fort Pillow preserves earthworks from the Civil War site where Confederate forces under Nathan Bedford Forrest captured the fort in 1864 and killed large numbers of Black Union troops after overrunning the position. The park interprets the battlefield and massacre through trails, exhibits and preserved terrain.
