Concrete remnants of Fort Mansfield survive in the dunes of Napatree Point, reached by a long coastal walk from Watch Hill. The Endicott-era fort operated in the early twentieth century before flaws in its defensive design helped make it obsolete. The surrounding conservation area is public, but seasonal wildlife restrictions and fragile dunes must be respected.
