Protected beneath a small stone shelter is a boulder inscribed in 1652 during an early attempt to establish the northern boundary of Massachusetts. The marks are often described as among the oldest surviving public inscriptions or monuments of colonial government in New England. The state historic site is generally open for outdoor visitation unless otherwise posted.
