Industrialist William Culbertson began building this elaborate Second Empire mansion in 1867, filling it with ornate woodwork, painted ceilings and other high Victorian details. The state historic site is also widely associated with local haunting stories and seasonal paranormal programming, giving visitors a legitimate way to experience the building rather than approaching a private haunted house.
