Artist Jim Reinders and about 35 family members built Carhenge in the summer of 1987 as a memorial to Reinders’ father. Thirty-eight gray-painted American cars recreate the scale and arrangement of Stonehenge, and today visitors can freely walk the outdoor site and see additional automobile sculptures in the surrounding Car Art Reserve.
