The Cardiff Giant was a ten-foot stone figure secretly manufactured and buried before being "discovered" in 1869 and promoted as a petrified prehistoric man. One of America's most famous nineteenth-century hoaxes survives today inside The Farmers' Museum in Cooperstown.
