A roadside obelisk marks the place where Captain Samuel Greele was killed by a falling tree in 1798. Instead of moving the memorial into a cemetery or town square, later residents preserved the exact location of the freak accident. The monument is visible from the roadside but should be approached only where it is safe to pull off legally.
