On a remote island in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, this major Mississippian ceremonial center contains numerous platform mounds built between roughly 1250 and 1550. Access is by water and is highly limited; travelers should use authorized tours or current Alabama Historical Commission guidance rather than attempting an unsupervised landing.
