For only a short period each year, rare blue ghost fireflies produce a sustained blue-green glow low over the forest floor rather than the familiar flashing pattern of common fireflies. The phenomenon is most associated with parts of western North Carolina and is best viewed through legitimate scheduled viewing opportunities when available.
