Dozens of sealed concrete ammunition bunkers from World War II remain scattered through today's wildlife refuge. The military storage landscape has been reclaimed by forest, wetlands and trails, producing an unusual mix of bird habitat and wartime infrastructure. The bunker interiors are closed.
