The museum displays thousands of remarkably preserved objects recovered from the steamboat Arabia, which sank in the Missouri River in 1856 and was excavated from a field more than a century later. Everyday cargo survives in such quantity that the collection feels like a sealed nineteenth-century store brought back to life.
