Tybee Island, GA
Georgia's oldest and tallest lighthouse complex remains active on Tybee Island, with a climbable tower and preserved keeper buildings. The site combines maritime engineering, coastal history and a physically demanding tower climb into a strong final stop for the state.
Jekyll Island, GA
A waterfront trail interprets the Wanderer, one of the last known ships to illegally bring captive Africans into the United States after the transatlantic slave trade had been outlawed. Sculptural and interpretive installations connect the specific landing site to the people forced ashore here in 1858.
Comer, GA
Georgia's longest surviving covered bridge spans the South Fork Broad River inside Watson Mill Bridge State Park. The 1885 timber bridge still forms the visual centerpiece of the park and is one of the state's strongest surviving pieces of old-road architecture.
Tunnel Hill, GA
A preserved antebellum railroad tunnel passes directly through Chetoogeta Mountain beside a later parallel tunnel. Guided visits connect the underground structure to the Western & Atlantic Railroad and Civil War campaigns that repeatedly fought over this transportation corridor.
Atlanta, GA
A vast stone mausoleum and chapel complex known as the Abbey stands inside Atlanta's Westview Cemetery. Its long interior corridors, stained glass and crypts produce a monumental atmosphere, but interior hours are narrower than cemetery gate hours and should be checked before visiting.
Fort Oglethorpe, GA
A tall stone observation tower rises over Chickamauga Battlefield as a memorial to Colonel John T. Wilder's mounted infantry brigade. When tower access is open, visitors can climb the interior staircase for a battlefield view; closures can occur, so check current NPS conditions.
Savannah, GA
A mile-long avenue of live oaks leads to the former estate of colonial official Noble Jones, where tabby ruins from an early fortified house survive. The dramatic entrance is only part of the stop; trails and interpretation continue into the historic property beyond the gate.
