The American Sign Museum preserves more than a century of American commercial signage, from hand-painted storefronts and roadside signs to enormous glowing neon displays. Visitors can walk through recreated streetscapes and see neon craftsmanship during regular museum hours.
Westerville, OH
Westerville was national headquarters of the Anti-Saloon League, one of the organizations most responsible for pushing the United States toward Prohibition. The Westerville History Museum occupies part of the League's former headquarters and preserves its propaganda, publications and archives; walk-in visitors can view current exhibits during library museum hours.
Mansfield, OH
BibleWalk is a wax museum containing more than 300 figures arranged in dozens of life-sized scenes drawn from the Bible. Built largely through the work of the neighboring church congregation, it now offers multiple self-guided ticketed tours alongside smaller free exhibits.
Cleveland, OH
Raymond Buckland created the collection that became the Buckland Museum of Witchcraft and Magick, one of the oldest collections of its kind in the United States. The Cleveland museum displays ritual objects, occult artifacts and material connected to modern witchcraft and ceremonial magic, and visitors can enter during ticketed public hours.
New Richmond, OH
The Cardboard Boat Museum calls itself the world's only museum devoted entirely to boats made from cardboard and preserves vessels, photographs and history connected to New Richmond's famous cardboard-boat races. Admission is free during its posted seasonal or weekend hours.
Medina, OH
Castle Noel is a year-round Christmas museum built around an enormous collection of Hollywood holiday-movie props, costumes, department-store displays and animated window scenes. It opened in Medina in 2013 and operates as a guided ticketed attraction, so reservations are recommended even though it is not limited to the Christmas season.
Hilliard, OH
The Early Television Museum preserves more than 150 television sets and related artifacts spanning mechanical television, early electronic sets, color television and broadcast history. Visitors can see restored equipment and rare experimental technology during the museum's posted weekend hours.
Dover, OH
Master carver Ernest "Mooney" Warther spent decades creating extraordinarily detailed working models of steam engines from wood, ivory and other materials. His workshop, family home, carvings, button collection and gardens are preserved together as a museum complex that visitors can tour during posted hours.
Celina, OH
The Mercer County District Library displays the Ron and Ruth Langsdon Mineral Collection, containing hundreds of colorful and rare mineral specimens from around the world. The collection is free to view during library hours, with occasional guided programs offering a closer look at the specimens.
Cincinnati, OH
The Lucky Cat Museum contains thousands of maneki-neko, the Japanese beckoning-cat figures associated with good fortune, inside Cincinnati's Essex Studios. The collection moved into its current first-floor space in 2016 and is free to visit, but current visits are by appointment during limited afternoon hours.
Sandusky, OH
The Merry-Go-Round Museum opened in 1990 inside Sandusky's former post office to preserve the art and history of carousel carving. Visitors can see restored and in-progress carousel figures, watch carving demonstrations when available and ride the museum's working indoor carousel.
Canal Winchester, OH
The National Barber Museum preserves barber chairs, razors, signs, poles, tools and other material from the history of barbering in America. The collection dates back to the museum's founding in 1988, but current public hours are limited, so check the museum's schedule or appointment information before routing here.
Euclid, OH
This small museum documents Cleveland-style polka and the musicians, accordions, recordings and immigrant communities that shaped it. Exhibits and the hall of fame are open only on limited weekly hours, making it a niche but very specific destination rather than an anytime stop.
Columbus, OH
Otherworld is a 32,000-square-foot immersive art attraction made up of dozens of interconnected rooms filled with large-scale installations, secret passages, surreal creatures and interactive technology. The Columbus experience opened in 2019 and operates as a ticketed indoor attraction during posted sessions.
Logan, OH
This tiny museum beside the Hocking Hills Regional Welcome Center holds thousands of pencil sharpeners collected by the late Paul A. Johnson and later expanded through additional donations. The display ranges from ordinary desk sharpeners to novelty designs shaped like animals, landmarks and household objects and can be visited during welcome-center hours.
Cleveland, OH
The Dittrick Medical History Center holds the Percy Skuy Collection, roughly 1,100 historical contraceptive devices, prototypes, packaging pieces and related artifacts assembled into one of the most extensive collections of its kind. The museum is free and open to the public, but as of 2026 its regular gallery hours are limited to Fridays and Saturdays.
Galion, OH
The Ohio Museum of Horror is a year-round multi-floor collection devoted to horror films, true crime, occult material and macabre artifacts. Displays include movie memorabilia, Ouija boards, anatomical and funerary objects and other intentionally unsettling pieces, with public admission during posted museum hours.
Lakewood, OH
Formerly known as the Museum of Divine Statues, the Sanctuary Museum preserves statues, stained glass and other sacred artwork rescued largely from closed or altered Catholic churches. The collection includes elaborate saints, relic-related objects and large architectural pieces and can be visited during its limited posted public hours.
Alliance, OH
The Troll Hole Museum is devoted to trolls and houses a collection recognized for its enormous number of troll dolls and related artifacts. Guided visits wind through themed rooms, troll displays and a fantasy-style troll cave, making it one of Ohio's more deliberately strange museums.
Marion, OH
The Wyandot Popcorn Museum fills a large historic building with antique popcorn wagons, peanut roasters and other equipment from the history of America's popcorn industry. The museum is seasonal and closes for part of the year, so visitors should check current hours before making it a route stop.
