Valdez's main museum covers Indigenous history, gold-rush transportation, the 1964 earthquake, the oil pipeline and the Exxon Valdez era. Few towns have been rebuilt and transformed as many times, giving the collection an unusually dramatic local scope.

Rows of staring dummies make it visually perfect for OddWay, but all visits require an advance guided-tour reservation during the museum's May-through-September season.

Vermilionville recreates and preserves Acadian, Creole and Native cultural landscapes using historic buildings, crafts and music. Demonstrations and performances make it more immersive than a static museum.
Barre, VT
Housed in a former granite manufacturing shed, this museum explains how Barre stone was quarried, carved and shipped around the country. Tools, machinery and stoneworking displays make it a useful companion stop to the city's unusual granite monuments and cemeteries.
Stowe, VT
Historic skis, snowboards, clothing, photographs and Hall of Fame material trace Vermont's unusually important role in American snow sports. The museum documents both technological changes and the personalities who turned skiing into a defining part of the state's identity.

The Wagner Free Institute preserves a nineteenth-century natural-history museum that has changed remarkably little since its displays were arranged in the 1800s. Thousands of fossils, shells, minerals, skeletons and taxidermy specimens remain in wooden cases under the original gallery structure.

The Walmart Museum occupies the company’s original Bentonville storefront and traces the retailer from a small five-and-dime to a global chain. Historic signs, office objects and early store artifacts make it an unusual piece of commercial history.

Housed in Marceline's restored Santa Fe depot, the museum focuses on Walt Disney's childhood connection to the town through family letters, photographs and personal artifacts. It also preserves material from the Midget Autopia attraction that Disney later donated to Marceline.
